💬 CROWDSOURCING: What is your soul focused on right now?
An unexpected opportunity to tune into your soul, and to have your soul nourished by hearing what's in focus for other souls.
A month ago, my intuition told me to not post again on Substack until after I submit my manuscript on March 3.
Then a few days ago, I was missing the connection with this community—and especially the connection amongst all of you on the Crowdsourcing posts—so my intuition told me to post one. That’s what makes intuition powerful—it’s exceptionally fluid so, like a rushing river, it can carve canyons.
Therefore, I’m back for a week with a Crowdsourcing question! What are you focused on right now? As soon as I ask it, though, I realize it’s not a great question, because the answer depends entirely on who “you” is.
And we’ve all got at least two you’s.
The first is the original you. The true self you came into the world with. Your soul. Your childlike, curious, earnest, naive, innocent, vulnerable, playful self. It’s the self that was created for you. You did nothing except slip into it, along with your skin.
The second you is the one you carefully crafted to protect the first you. It’s sometimes called the false self, though I don’t think that’s very fair. After all, it was constructed from the best parts of your true self—you just repurposed them for protection instead of connection. This you is sometimes called your ego.
I guess I’m not so curious about what your ego is focused on, because I already know. It’s doing what egos do. It’s dividing the world into us versus them. It’s feeling holier than the them. It’s angry at the them. It’s scared about the them. It’s thinking and fretting and scrolling and raging. And that’s fine. If it weren’t for our ego preserving us all these millennia, we wouldn’t be here. But I’m curious about something else.
What is your soul focused on right now?
I’ll go first. My soul has been so focused on putting itself on the page that I finished my manuscript in just three weeks. Now I’m revising it and being reminded the soul loves improving things as much as it loves creating them. It’s not defensive about what it said a minute ago, because it knows there’s probably a more beautiful way to say it now.
Also, my soul has been focused on doing a massive jigsaw puzzle with my daughter. The other night she said she was “fumblegasted” when she meant “flabbergasted.” I like fumblegasted way better. I’ll remember that moment until the moment I quit remembering things.
My soul has been showing up on Notes, too, sharing stories and insights in short form. Here’s one:
Okay, now it’s your turn…
What is your soul focused on right now?
This is how Crowdsourcing posts work:
In the comments, in all caps write the thing your soul is focused on—for example, PUZZLING WITH MY DAUGHTER—and then, if you wish, share some details about the experience. (If you have more than one thing your soul is focused on, leave two or more comments rather than putting them in one.)
Choose one other commenter whose focus resonates with you and let them know by responding to their comment.
Looking forward to connecting with you all again and hearing about the soul nourishing things your souls are focused on right now!

OPEN HEARTEDNESS (I wonder where I got that?). Open, instead of closed, when my feelings are hurt. Open, instead of closed, when I'm angry. Open, instead of closed, when my fears threaten to rob me of joy and peace. Open, instead of closed, when things don't go my way. Open instead of closed when self-doubt washes over me. Open instead of closed when I can't "buy" perspective. OPEN.
